Hidrokarbon Hasil Perengkahan Sampah Polystyrene Foam

Polystyrene foam atau yang lebih dikenal styrofoam banyak digunakan untuk kemasan, bahan kerajinan, dekorasi, bangunan, dan sebagainya. Namun penggunaan polystyrene kemasan masih menimbulkan beberapa kontroversi. Beberapa pandangan negatif muncul mengenai seperti menyebabkan masalah kesehatan lingkungan. Menurut aspek lingkungan, merupakan material sulit terurai secara alami oleh alam. Penanganan sampah sebatas pembuangan saja akan membebani alam dalam penguraiannya. Oleh karena itu kegiatan pengelolaan perlu dilakukan. Salah satu metode dijadikan suatu produk berguna bermanfaat bagi masyarakat pada masa datang adalah mengkonversi menjadi bakar. Bagaimanapun juga dilihat dari dasarnya berpotensi mempunyai nilai ekonomis sebagai sumber baku jika diolah dengan cara tepat yaitu menghasilkan hidrokarbon dasar energi. Konversi bakar perengkahan menggunakan katalis (catalytic cracking) dijalankan suhu rendah daripada thermal cracking. Pada penelitian ini, direngkah H-Zeolit 360oC. Hasil dianalisa alat GC-MS. 360oC 85,52% fraksi gasoline 7,4% kerosin diesel komposisi 100% golongan aromatik. Kandungan senyawa aromatik tinggi bersifat karsinogen, pembentuk deposit penyumbang emisi gas buang berbahaya.
